many things so properly as this place from California gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown. First, some qualifications: Meg Whitman is working as being the non-politician CEO from Brown, who she has tried out to color as the uber-career politician. So we get her powerful line, paraphrasing the oft-used and oft-misattributed estimate, Insanity is performing the same point above and over once again and hoping for different benefits.
In the meantime, Brown has tried out to color Whitman as being a wealthy woman unprepared for business office who's merely trying to buy the election, by means of a great deal of television places and several other high-priced consultants, including aides like previous Swamplander Mike Murphy, who also worked for Gov. (One among Brown s weaknesses, in contrast, is a insufficient discipline in relation to message.)
So listed here comes Brown, turning the entire coding of the Whitman campaign on its head. Abruptly Whitman s signature line about the definition of madness is really a comment on consultant-driven candidates who read through lines created for other consultant-driven candidates. And Whitman is portrayed as a puppet, not a CEO.
Whitman responded with a assertion declaring Brown was really more like Schwarzenegger, and an advertisement painting Brown like a puppet, following the bounce.

The intriguing point about Huckabee s populism is that is based in scripture, not anger. He phone calls himself a Second Commandment Christian, referring to Jesus s next Do Unto bdm100 Other individuals rath than Moses s. Following times of extreme and psychological discussion, the home, as predicted, has passed a non-binding resolution opposing President Bush s prepare to deploy a lot more than 21,000 added troops to Iraq. The final tally was 246-182. Even so, only 17 Republicans broke ranks with the President to assistance the Democratic resolution. (Two Democrats sided using the Republicans.) Argh. The Senate leadership is on questionable lawful ground listed here a repair that's partially its personal making, due to the fact Harry Reid resisted the theory of the particular election to fill Barack Obama s Senate seat. As it stands, Blagojevich continues to be the Governor of Illinois, and Burris fulfills the constitutional needs for becoming a Senator: He is above thirty many years previous, has been a citizen for at least nine years which is a resident on the state that he would represent. The most relevant legal precedent would propose that Congress doesn't possess the energy to add any other needs.
More than at Firedoglake, Jane Hamsher and Ian Welsh have a fascinating discussion heading on about which side is correct in this standoff. I believe the actual winner goes to get the person who comes up with some sort of negotiated settlement which makes certain it doesn t come to this on Tuesday.
In Obama’s Commemoration, a Call to Remember More Than 9/11
Everywhere President Obama traveled on Sunday, he was asked to remember. Never forget, read the signs held by a half dozen family members of 9/11 victims at Ground Zero, the words framing photocopied snapshots, or blown up portraits, of loved ones who died a decade earlier. Forget me not, said the young niece of firefighter who had perished, after she read her uncles name on stage.
In Shanksville, Pa., David White, the cousin of a passenger on Flight 93, asked Obama to sign his shirt, sewn with the airbag reset words Never Forget. As Obama walked to the crash site, to stare out at the lush green field where 40 innocent people died, spotted now with yellow wildflowers, he passed a polished river stone left at the memorial that had been sandblasted with the word, Remember.
At these events, and during a later appearance at the Pentagon, Obama

While Speaker John Boehner called for a free exchange of ideas today on the House floor, the truth is nothing is likely to pass this week or ever. The only piece of legislation the House will consider this week is a resolution in support of Rep. Giffords and the shooting victims which is expected to pass by voice vote this afternoon. After that the Republicans leave on their annual retreat. The odds of the GOP agreeing to increase members budgets in this economic climate are slim-to-none. Likewise, any proposals to restrict or loosen gun control are unlikely to pass. Im not entirely sure Bradys bill would be constitutional. The GOP has been mum about renaming their bill. Even before this happened he was complaining that his gesture in giving up nukes had not been reciprocated with the kind of love he expected. If he somehow survives this hell have no interest in improving relations with the west.

confirms my earlier reporting that Petraeus and his team were ds708 chafing against the administration-imposed timeline of progress, perhaps even pulling troops out, by August. As I ve written before, the surge is a glacier: slow-moving, with any possible success (a very dim prospect) coming three or more years down the road.
Which is why the administration is having so much trouble finding a military czar to run the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The very fundamental issue is, they don t know where the hell they re going, said retired Marine Gen. John J. Jack Sheehan, a former top NATO commander who was among those rejecting the job.
Juan Cole s plan to get us out of Iraq is fine, in principle. But I have trouble with airbag reset sentences like the first half of this one:
The Shiites will have to demobilize the Mahdi Army and Badr Organization as well, and Iran will have to commit to working with the Maliki government to make that happen.
It s pretty obvious that groups like the Mahdi Army and Badr Organization are the Shiites. They control the Maliki government. They aren t going to demobilize themselves especially when it seems obvious that the future of Shiite, and therefore Arab, Iraq is going to be determined by an internecine tussle between the two groups (which is to say the Hakim and Sadr families and friends). I wish I could be as optimistic as Cole that a solution is possible, but there are too many moving pieces here with too many conflicting agendas.

Gaddafi’s Blood
It was not long after he received a secret warning from the Italian government in April 1986 and narrowly escaped being blown to bits by American bombers that Muammar Gaddafi declared his intention to become Emperor of Africa. What followed as the increasingly erratic Gaddafi pursued his megalomaniacal dream was one of the most obscene and violent episodes
